Vaccine Hesitancy - a global issue

Vaccine Hesitancy is a global issue ranked as one of the greatest concerns for global health by the World Health Organisation. Understanding the impact and cause of vaccine hesitancy can improve uptake of vaccines reducing the risk of outbreaks or resurgence. A multi-disciplinary group called the Pro-Vac Movement was set up to identify vaccine hesitancy amongst parents and identify common concerns and questions about vaccine safety. Resources were developed to reduce hesitancy with Vaccine Safety classes and creation of health care professional sessions to improve their confidence with having conversations about vaccine safety with hesitant parents.

YourStance Project

Ana Waddington, Trauma Nurse Coordinator, Royal London Hospital
Royal London Hospital emergency department sister Ana Waddington felt a sense of helplessness with the increasing presentations of young people with knife-related wounds and the potentially devastating outcomes, so set up an organisation to educate and engage those at risk.
She used her own time and money to set up YourStance, which teaches young people at risk of serious youth violence cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), basic life support and haemorrhage control, and also educates them about the potential consequences of knife-related injuries.
Ana is the winner of the RCNi Nurse of the Year 2020
