The Year of the Nurse 2020  - Theresa Fyffe Director, RCN Scotland 
WHO designated 2020 as the “International Year of the Nurse and the Midwife” in honour of Florence Nightingale’s birth,  honouring Florence as a visionary leader.  Plans were put in place to celebrate the work of nurses and midwives, highlighting the challenges and opportunities they deal with on a daily basis. As today, nurses  have played crucial front line roles in pandemics throughout history. What Covid 19 has brought into sharp view is  the ever evolving, ever expanding role of nursing. I will be exploring the perception of nursing as heroes, the courage of compassion and the core work needs of nurses now and the future.

In this presentation I will be describing the challenges that teams face within a multicultural team. I will also be describing how the lack of training and development leads to poor patient outcomes. I will further discuss the responsibility that each individual has in taking ownership of their own careers as well as the importance of meaningful appraisals.
